SMITH NEW NORTHEAST POINT LEADER HEADING TO CHEMUNG
INDIANAPOLIS – Ryan Smith has regained the point lead in USAC Northeast Ford
Focus Midget Car Series competition after his most recent victory Friday at
Adirondack International Speedway in Lowville, N.Y., the third driver to
lead the standings in as many weeks. Now, he hopes to end that trend
Saturday at Chemung Speedway in New York.
Smith won after taking the lead from Sean Carman on Lap 20 of 25, then took
the No. 55 S&S Speedways machine to Victory Lane. Carman, who entered last
week with the series lead, finished second, ahead of Michael Sboro, Jeff
Abold and Nick Wean.
Abold was the point leader by one over Smith heading into Lowville, thanks
to his triumph Wednesday at Seekonk Speedway in Massachusetts. Abold trailed
Dana Messier for 18 laps before putting his car in front for the final seven
of the 25-lapper. Messier was second, besting Wean, Smith and Ryan Osborne,
who has also led the standings at one point this season.
Smith’s lead over Abold stands at nine, while Carman – who finished 18th at
Seekonk – is now 39 points out of the lead.
