John Force, Daughters, Highlight
NHRA Drag Racing Action in Sonoma, Aug. 4-6
SONOMA, Calif. (IMMEDIATE RELEASE) - Legendary NHRA driver
John Force and his drag racing daughters will highlight more than 500
drivers who are expected to converge on the Sonoma Valley this weekend
(Aug. 4-6) for the CAL-STEAM/Kohler Summernationals, as part of the NHRA
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by Korbel.
This marks the second consecutive weekend of NHRA drag
racing on the world-famous quarter-mile drag strip as Infineon Raceway
hosted the premier POWERade Drag Racing Series this past weekend with
the FRAM Autolite Nationals.
This race is the fourth of seven races for 2006 in NHRA
Pacific Division competition, which encompasses the western United
States. There will be drag racing action in eight categories,
highlighted by Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, which can
blast down the quarter-mile drag strip at 260 mph in under six seconds.
Force, a 13-time NHRA Funny Car world champion, will also be
at the raceway watching his three daughters compete: Ashley, Brittany
and Courtney. Ashley will compete in Top Alcohol Dragster, Brittany in
Super Comp and Courtney in Super Comp.
Sunland's Chris Demke tops the Top Alcohol Dragster
standings entering the weekend, while John Weaver (Orting, Wash.) is
first in Top Alcohol Funny Car. The division's Korbel Super Eliminator
class, the Team Superstores Top Comp category and the Sportsman
Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also run in
conjunction with the event.
Gates at Infineon Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day.
Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 8 a.m. and continue Saturday
morning at 8 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars will
have one qualifying pass on Friday, at 3 p.m., and two on Saturday, at
noon and 4 p.m. Eliminations are slated to start Sunday at 8 a.m. Top
Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars will run first round at
noon. Tickets for the event are $5 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday.
