Vandergriff advances to second round in Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif., (July 30, 2006)- Bob Vandergriff Jr. leaves Sonoma with
a smile on his face. Vandergriff was happy to advance to the second round of
the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway this weekend, closing the
chapter of the 2006 "Western Swing." Vandergriff and his Jim Dupuy-led crew
came into the Sonoma hills looking to change their performance by assembling a
new chassis to see if that would provide them more consistency. They did just
that. In the opening stanza they were able to dismiss Morgan Lucas after the
UPS Top Fueler put down a 4.844 second pass at 296.11 mph leaving the
tire-smoking Lucas behind. This was Vandergriff's 100 career round win.

Vandergriff would be able to go no further than the second round where
eventual runner-up Tony Schumacher pulled away from the UPS digger, when
Vandergriff started to smoke the tires at half track.

The UPS team will get a well deserved rest before heading to the next
stop on the NHRA POWERade drag racing series for the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at
Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn. on August 10-13, 2006.

Vandergriff leaves Sonoma in 14th position in the Top Fuel points chase.
