PETER SHEPHERD EARNS TOP-FIVE FINISH IN ARCA RE/MAX SERIES DEBUT
ST. LOUIS, I.L. (July 28, 2006)- Peter Shepherd made his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut Friday night at Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis, IL. Shepherd did not disappoint, he qualified 15th and went on to finish fourth. Headz Gamez International sponsored Shepherd in his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut and they were on his car for his fourth place ARCA debut.
Being his first ARCA race Shepherd decided to take a conservative approach to qualifying. The team made a lot of changes to Shepherds No. 39 from practice, which left Shepherd not quite sure how it would handle during qualifying. Practicing patience and smooth driving put them in the 15th starting position, a great location to move to the front.
In the early stages of the race Shepherd found himself running with defending champion Frank Kimmel. Shepherd took advantage of this track location to learn from the proven veteran. He was able to pick off his fellow competitors one-by-one on his way to the front.
The Roulo Brothers team gave him some great pit stops, which helped Shepherd gain positions on pit road. With the help of his pit crew he was able to put himself in great position to survive the multiple green white checker restarts and finish fourth. In his first truck race Shepherd felt his restarts weren't as good as they could have been, but luckily thanks to this ARCA race he has plenty of practice on the restarts and can't wait to do it again at Nashville. On August 12th Peter will compete in both the ARCA RE/MAX Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at the Nashville Superspeedway.
"I am really happy with the end result of tonight's race," said Shepherd. "As soon as the green flag dropped I knew we would go to the front. I really want to thank Headz Gamez for sponsoring me; it is great to have them on board. Hopefully they are as excited as I am with the result."
