Herta Drives XM Satellite Radio Car to 11th Place Finish at Michigan
BROOKLYN, Mich. (July 30, 2006) - Bryan Herta piloted the #7 XM Satellite Radio car to an
11th place result at Sunday's running of the Firestone Indy 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Starting in 12th place, Herta came into some good fortune when his initial pit stop came around on
lap 43. As Herta finished his stop, a caution flag came out which catapulted him into second place as he
was one of the final drivers to come to pit lane. When the track returned to green-flag racing, Herta took the
lead on lap 53. However, his car was lacking the speed to run consistently with the lead pack and he fell
back in the field where he spent the remainder of the race battling for positions.
Helio Castroneves led the field across the finish line and was followed by Vitor Meira. Dan Wheldon,
Tony Kanaan and Tomas Scheckter rounded out the top five.
Following a weekend off, the IndyCar Series will return to action on Sunday, Aug. 13, with the Meijer
Indy 300 from Kentucky Speedway. ABC Sports will provide live broadcast coverage of the event beginning
at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). All IndyCar Series races can also be heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers on XM
channel 145, the official home of the IndyCar Series.
Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"It was one of the most frustrating races of my life today. The XM Satellite Radio car handled great
but I couldn't get down the straightaways for anything and I don't know why. It's not like we put a bunch of
drag in the car for this race. It's just a mystery but I really want to thank the guys on the XM Satellite Radio
crew. As frustrating as it is for me, it's just as frustrating for them. We all want to do well, we all want to win
races and I know that all the guys are doing everything they can to give me fast race cars and I know we'll
get it figured out."
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We could drive the XM Satellite Radio car all over today. We were happy with it, we just didn't have
the speed again. It just haunts us that we can't find more speed. We got fortunate and got up to the front but
couldn't hold it. We just don't have the speed the other guys do but we'll keep plugging away and find the
answer."
