EARLY CONTACT DURING PROVISIONAL QUAILFYING DENIES ROCKETSPORTS RACING OF GOOD RESULTS IN SAN JOSE DURING DAY ONE

Notes
SAN JOSE, California (July 28, 2006) – Having a clean run this morning, Rocketsports Racing’s driver Nicky Pastorelli was able to learn the track while finding speed to anticipate a good run this afternoon, unfortunately his afternoon drive ended early due to contact during his seventh lap of provisional qualifying on the streets of San Jose, California.

With less than 23 minutes to go in the first round of qualifying, Pastorelli sat in the fourth spot after posting a quick lap time of 51.904 seconds, but loses his fastest lap time of the day due to causing a red flag. Pastorelli currently sits in the 16th spot on the Champ Car timing and scoring charts with his second-best time of the day recorded at 52.344 seconds.

The Italo-Dutch driver completed 50 laps today on the 1.443-mile temporary street course in downtown San Jose. He will have more on-track time tomorrow with a one-hour morning practice session before final qualifying takes place tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. local time.

Quotes
Nicky Pastorelli #8 Curacao/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone
“The track is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It was not too hard to learn and did not feel as bumpy as everyone made it sound from last year. So, despite not knowing how it was last year, the improvements they made resulted in a nice track to drive on this year. It was unfortunate that I went off in provisional qualifying early on, so we did not get to have a good run this afternoon. I think that we are moving in the right direction. We have a little issue with the #8 Curacao/Rocketsports car when I am going over the bumps, but it is something that we will be able to sort out for tomorrow. I think we will be good to go tomorrow.”
