American Tire Distributors To Expand Service in the Midwest

CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 28 -- American Tire Distributors, Inc. ("American Tire Distributors") announced today that they have executed an agreement to acquire Samaritan Wholesale Tire Company ("Samaritan Tire"). This will expand American Tire Distributors' service across Minnesota and into western Wisconsin.

They have built a solid business based on strong management, efficient operations, and, most importantly, an unwavering commitment to customer service," said Richard P. "Dick" Johnson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Tire Distributors. "The Samaritan Tire operation, including its strong team of people, will be an excellent complement to our existing Midwest distribution centers in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Des Moines, Iowa; and Lincoln, Nebraska," Mr. Johnson added.

Samaritan Tire currently operates one distribution center in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. This distribution center services approximately 1,075 customers, primarily in the Eastern Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.

Jay Halvorson, co-owner of Samaritan Tire since 1973, will join the ATD organization and remain involved in the management of the Minneapolis operation. Mr. Halverson shared his high expectations for the future of the combined company, saying, "I am very proud of the many accomplishments of the Samaritan Tire team over the past 33 years," he said.
