AKRON, Ohio, July 27 -- Two beloved American icons -- the Goodyear blimp and Hostess Twinkies -- are finally coming together. Or at least the companies they represent are.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company announced today it has been awarded a supply arrangement by Interstate Brands Corporation to provide commercial tires for up to 10,000 vehicles that transport Hostess and Dolly Madison sweet goods and Wonder and Home Pride breads. Under the arrangement, Goodyear will supply replacement truck tires and tire services in North America for Interstate Brands Corp. trucks.
As for the icons, Goodyear blimps celebrated last year their 80th birthday of flying above major events; the cream-filled Twinkie snack cakes marked 75 years.
Steve McClellan, Goodyear vice president of commercial tire systems, said, "Working with Interstate Brands is a great opportunity for us to gain new business. Our ability to offer a comprehensive service package of original equipment, replacement and retread tires as well as value-added services is key to this new agreement.
"We also have an unmatched network of service providers throughout the United States and Canada to service Interstate Brands trucks. We're obviously excited to be working with Interstate Brands."
"We believe that by using our national network of commercial tire centers, Interstate Brands will improve its efficiency in maintaining its fleet. Our collection of fleet management tools gives Interstate Brands more control of its per mile tire costs," McClellan said.
Goodyear, the world's largest tire company, offers complete products and services to the trucking industry, including a full range of original equipment and replacement tires. In addition, the company's cradle-to-grave tire and service network includes retreading, tire management tools and business solutions for tomorrow's trucking fleets.
