Douglas Motorsports CORR Race Report ? Rounds 7 & 8

After two podium finishes two weeks ago in Bark River, Douglas
Motorsports was looking to build on their most recent success. The
Southern California resident knew that not only would he have to
battle his fellow competitor, but the unseasonable warm temperatures
as well. Little did anyone know how high would the temperatures get
or how rough a battle Scott Douglas would have to face.

Round 7

PRO-2
At the drop of the green flag, sixteen trucks came through Turn One
and down the front straightaway at nearly 100mph. Suddenly the race
was red flagged as two trucks got sideways coming off the finish line
jump causing half the field to stop dead in their tracks. During this
melee several trucks were severely damaged as fiberglass body parts
were strewn throughout the raceway. One of the damaged trucks was the
#7 Rancho Suspension AMSOIL Kumho Tire Reider Racing KC HiLites Ford
F-150 of Scott Douglas. During the pileup the rear sway bar and left
rear shock mount broke from all the contact the truck endured. On the
restart Scott decided to run at a reduced pace and bring home any
amount of Championship points. After twenty minutes of racing Scott
brought the #7 Rancho truck home in eighth place.

PRO-4
The land rush start saw Scott Douglas and his #7AMSOIL?Super Team?
Rancho Suspension Kumho Tire Reider Racing KC HiLites Ford F-150 race
cleanly down the front straightaway and into the infield portion of
the track. By lap 2 Scott made several passes to reach the fourth
position. Then the new truck blues would work their way into the power
steering. Just before the mandatory caution the power assist in the
steering disappeared. Nevertheless Scott soldiered on. On lap 10 the
#5 of Marty Coyne passed Scott for the position. At the checkered flag
the #7AMSOIL ?Super Team? Ford finished in fifth place.

?Today the PRO-2 race saw some real aggressive driving on the track. I
knew there wasn?t a quick fix for the rear suspension before the
restart, so Bill Smith (race engineer) and I decided to run the truck
the best we could without breaking anything else. It was a good
gamble, because points are at a premium right now,? commented Scott
Douglas. ?All I know is that we are sure keeping the fiberglass
suppliers real busy. The kids will have a field day with all the
fiberglass ?souvenirs? that we?ll have in the pit area after today.
Hopefully we will all calm down for tomorrow?s round.?

Round 8

PRO-2
The PRO-2 melee continued on Sunday. There was another red flag due to
a pileup in Turn Three. Before the red flag was displayed Scott had
the ProPower engine pull the truck quickly in to the third position.
On the restart, however, Scott had to battle from midpack and by lap
six, he was back in third place. On lap 10,just after the mandatory
caution, the main pack of trucks piled up in Turn Three. Scott?s truck
was ?the meat in the sandwich? as his truck?s left rear tire was
punctured and the right front control arm folded under from the heavy
impact.

Again Scott was able to stay out on the track and take the checkered
flag. The battered truck was awarded an eighth place finish.

PRO-4
The PRO-4 race saw Scott and his #7 AMSOIL ?Super Team? Rancho
Suspension Kumho Tire Reider Racing KC HiLites Ford F-150 grab the
holeshot into Turn One. On the first lap Scott and #11 Adrian Cenni
battled back and forth for lead with Scott taking control by lap 5.
During this time Huseman and Greaves were battling each other as well
as looking for a way grab the lead. While this was happening #17
Renezeder was black flagged for rough driving. The penalty was served
just before the mandatory caution. This enabled #17 to stay on the
lead lap and get in line in fifth place. The caution period also wiped
away a 10-truck length lead Scott had over second place Cenni.
When the green flag racing resumed, Renezeder was making his way to
the front. With two laps to go, Scott had Renezder right on his bumper.

On the final lap, going into Turn 5, Renezeder drove inside of Scott
looking to make the pass. What happened next is best described by Bill
Center, staff writer for the San Diego Union Tribune (7/23/06) ??while
running second, he used the truck of race leader Scott Douglas as
though it were a sidewall in a billiard match. Trailing while running
inside going into the turn, Renezeder appeared to use Douglas' truck
as a way to both make the left-hand turn and keep from losing control.
Renezeder went on to win. Douglas, who had dominated the race, was
knocked back to third.?

Afterwards, race officials brought both drivers to the CORR trailer
for a discussion on what happened on the final lap. After several
hours, CORR officials ruled that Renezeder would be awarded the win,
but 10 championship points would be deducted from his season total.

Throughout this ordeal, Scott Douglas never filed a formal protest.
The review went on a long time involving several officials and other
CORR drivers. The final decision was based upon guidelines created by
CORR and the process was allowed to take its course.

Epilogue ?comments from Scott Douglas.
PRO-2
?This was a very exciting weekend. I don?t know if we can handle
another one like this?. Let?s talk about our team. The Rancho
Suspension PRO-2 truck was an exercise in survival. The job my crew
great job getting the Ford F-150 back together for Sunday. I know with
the success we have had in Bark River, my crew can?t wait to get to
Michigan.?- stated Scott Douglas.

PRO-4
?The AMSOIL ?Super Team? Rancho Suspension Kumho Tire Ford F-150 is
truly a state of the art PRO-4 truck,? commented Douglas. ?We know its
fast. We know it can win. We were close this weekend. Little things
have caused us problems, but we have solved them without upsetting the
balance of this lightweight truck. I rather have a fast truck that?s
capable of winning on its own than a slower heavier truck that needs a
bit of luck to reach the winners podium.?
