STANBROUGH NAMED "INDIANA SPRINT WEEK" CHAMP; LAWRENCEBURG, TERRE HAUTE
CANCELED
INDIANAPOLIS – Jon Stanbrough is the undisputed king of Indiana Sprint car
racing. At least, he was for five races.
The Jamestown, Ind. native, arguably the best Sprint car driver in the state
due his success in weekly track competition, was proclaimed the “Indiana
Sprint Week” champion Friday after track promoters at Lawrenceburg Speedway
and the Terre Haute Action Track canceled their events due to threats of
rain.
Those two events may have only been encores for Stanbrough, however, after
he won three of five races, including the fifth and final round Wednesday at
Gas City I-69 Speedway after passing Levi Jones on Lap 25. Stanbrough,
driving the No. 53 Foxco DRC/Foxco Chevy, led Jones, A.J. Anderson, Dave
Darland and Casey Shuman across the stripe. He had previously won ISW races
at Tri-State and Kokomo Speedways.
Stanbrough’s final point total stood at 309 points, 50 more than runner-up
Jones. He became the first native Hoosier to win the “Indiana Sprint Week”
title since Darland in 2001, and the most victorious driver of the USAC
National Sprint season with four wins.
Jones, by virtue of his success, took the point lead from Josh Wise, who had
held the advantage since April.
USAC National Sprint Car Series action returns Aug. 6 at Tri-City Speedway
in Pontoon Beach, Ill.
