THE ADVANCE AUTO PARTS RACE TEAM HAVE TOUGH WEEKEND IN SEATTLE AFTER
QUALIFYING IN TOP HALF

2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series
Round 14 of 23
NHRA Nationals, Pacific Raceways, Kent, Wash.

Race Date: July 21-23, 2006

KENT, Wash. (July 24, 2006) - Cruz Pedregon and his Advance Auto Parts Race
Team qualified seventh, but eliminated from competition after the first
round of competition in NHRA POWERade Nitro Funny Car action from the NHRA
Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash. (near Seattle) this past
weekend. Pedregon retains ninth in the 2006 point standings heading into
this weekend's race in Sonoma, Calif.

"The results weren't what our Advance Auto Parts Team wanted in Seattle,"
Pedregon said. "We learned a lot, and we'll keep moving forward and not
dwell on what happened. Any round you win is such a big deal. The cars are
so temperamental, that things that can go wrong usually do go wrong - that's
why there are some many different winners in our division. But we remained
positive through a difficult weekend. We did qualify well in seventh place
with a 4.92, one of the better runs of the day in the heat of Saturday
afternoon, which was a strong showing for our team. But we had a car that
started misbehaving on Sunday. We'll get it fixed, though. Our car is now
100 percent like Tony's (Pedregon, teammate and brother), as you could tell
by our close qualifying positions (Cruz qualified 7th, Tony qualified 8th),
but Tony just had a little better race luck. Tomorrow's going to come
anyway and we'll have a new weekend of racing to look forward to in Sonoma."

Sonoma, Calif.
