RACE CLASSIFICATIONS:
Superbike:
Superbikes are racing motorcycles
that are modified versions of machines originally sold for street use.
The concept of Superbike racing is similar to that of
championship stock car racing - to have machines that
visually resemble production models, while allowing
freedom to the tuner to improve the power and handling
characteristics of the machine.
Superbike class motorcycles use 901cc - 1000cc four-stroke
motors with two or more cylinders.
Supersport:
Supersport bikes, along with those in Superstock, are the
closest motorcycles to showroom stock in the AMA
Superbike Championship. The Supersport class is
comprised of 0-600cc four-stroke, multi-cylinder machines.
Superstock:
Like Supersport, Superstock machines are based on
production four-stroke street motorcycles. The Superstock
class is comprised of 745cc - 1000cc four-stroke, multi-
cylinder machines.
Formula Xtreme:
AMA Formula Xtreme motorcycles are allowed the largest
displacement engines in AMA Road Racing and are based
on production four-stroke street motorcycles. Machines in
the class are based on the following displacements:
- 450cc-600cc four-stroke, multi-cylinder
- 595cc-750cc four-stroke, liquid-cooled twin-cylinder
- 850cc-1350cc four-stroke, air-cooled twin-cylinder
