Kanaan Drives Team 7-Eleven Car
to Victory at The Milwaukee Mile
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (July 23, 2006) -Tony Kanaan piloted the #11 Team 7-Eleven car to his
seventh career IndyCar Series victory Sunday afternoon at the ABC Supply Co./A.J. Foyt Indy 225 at The
Milwaukee Mile.
Starting from fourth place on the starting grid, Kanaan moved past teammate Marco Andretti as
well as Sam Hornish Jr. in the first two turns, eventually passing Helio Castroneves on lap 32 en route to
leading a race-high 127 laps. Kanaan kept among the top three, dropping from the lead momentarily during
pit cycles and restarts, and took the lead for good on lap 180 to pace the final 45 laps to the checkered flag.
Following Kanaan across the line was Hornish in second, Tomas Scheckter third, Danica Patrick
fourth and Andretti rounding out the top five.
Through 10 events this season, Kanaan stands tied for fifth in the driver point standings, along with
Vitor Meira, with 277 points.
Next up for Kanaan and the entire IndyCar Series will be the Firestone Indy 400 on Sunday, July
30, at Michigan International Speedway. The event will be televised live by ABC Sports beginning at 3:30
p.m. (EDT). It can also be heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers by tuning into XM channel 145.
Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I had a great battle with Marco; my heart was in my throat the whole time. He's my teammate and
he's my boss's son so I couldn't mess up and take him out. Team 7-Eleven needed a win so bad and that
makes today especially great. This is as much fun as when I won the championship in 2004. This victory
also proves that the Indy Pro Series test program works. I have to thank Jaime (Camara), Jonathan Klein,
Dario (Franchitti) and Marco; they did a great job testing here.
Kim Green, President, Andretti Green Racing:
"When you have a great race car and a driver as good as Tony Kanaan, you'll bring it home to
victory as long as you give them good pit stops and good strategy. The Team 7-Eleven crew gave him
great pit stops, the engineers did a great job with fuel strategy as well as the race car setup. It was a
competitive, perfect day. We were racing our teammates most of the time and they weren't giving in. You
give Tony Kanaan a car equal to anybody and he's going to be fast. It's great to be back in victory lane."
