Franchitti Finishes Sixth at Milwaukee
in Klein Tools/Canadian Club Machine
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (July 23, 2006) - Dario Franchitti, driver of the #27 Klein Tools/Canadian Club car,
posted one of his strongest performances of the year before finishing sixth at Sunday's ABC Supply Co./A.J.
Foyt Indy 225 at The Milwaukee Mile. Franchitti held his ground in the IndyCar Series driver championship
where he stands seventh.
Starting 12th, Franchitti rocketed through the field and picked off drivers one-by-one. He gained two
positions in the first 10 laps, two positions over the next 15 laps and another two positions over the next 20 laps.
Just 50 laps into the race, Franchitti had elevated his standing to sixth place. As the race neared its mid-point,
Franchitti climbed to second and then assumed command by overtaking eventual race winner Tony Kanaan
after a lap 108 restart. As the race ran on under green, Franchitti dropped back to third by the time of his final
pit stop on lap 140 of 225. Over the course of his final stint, Franchitti yielded three positions to cars with
fresher tires, ultimately finishing sixth.
Kanaan won his first race of the season and the seventh of his IndyCar Series career. Sam Hornish Jr.,
Tomas Scheckter and Danica Patrick took the next three positions, followed by AGR drivers Marco Andretti,
Franchitti and Bryan Herta.
The IndyCar Series returns to action Sunday, July 30, from Michigan International Speedway. ABC
Sports will provide live broadcast coverage of the Firestone Indy 400 beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). The race
can also be heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers on XM channel 145.
Dario Franchitti, #27 Klein Tools/Canadian Club Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We had a very good car to start with and I could go at a certain pace. If I tried to go any quicker than
that, the car just used up the tires so quickly and that's what we were seeing toward the end there. The
Klein Tools/Canadian Club car was very good in traffic and when the track was slow, but as the track got quicker
toward the end, I just couldn't hold that pace. We passed a bunch of cars and fought our way up to the lead and
the guys did a great job in the pits. It's great for AGR that TK (Tony Kanaan) won the race, but we're a little
disappointed right now."
John Anderson, Team Manager, #27 Klein Tools/Canadian Club Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"It is great to see Tony (Kanaan) up there in the winner's circle and AGR back on top. I thought we had
the cars to have a '1-2-3-4' finish today. Fuel played such a big part of the race today and Tony is very good at
saving his fuel. There was nothing Dario could do with the tires he had on the last stint, regardless of the fuel
situation. We had a good run and I'm pleased because we had a great race car."
