KENT, Wash. (July 22, 2006) – Jason Line, who took over the No. 1
position in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point standings last weekend in
Denver, qualified his KB Racing LLC, Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO
No. 1 at the 19th annual NHRA Schuck’s Auto Supply Nationals at Pacific
Raceways, in Kent, Wash., near Seattle.
Lately, hot has become a way of life for racers on the NHRA POWERade
Drag Racing Series and Friday’s qualifying was no exception. With
Friday’s official temperature at SeaTac Airport reaching a record 97
degrees and temperature at Pacific Raceways reaching 102 degrees in the
pit area, Line used the last Friday qualifying session qualifying to be
hot himself, as he blazed the quarter-mile in 6.690 seconds in his
Summit Pontiac.
"That felt really good in the car and I guess the scoreboard agreed,"
said Line after Friday’s qualifying. "It was pretty stout. I'd say we
got all of it out of that run. I'm really happy with the way the car's
running right now.”
Although he predicted a lower run, the 6.690 second run held throughout
qualifying and Line took his second consecutive No. 1, the fourth top
qualifying position of 2006 and the eight of his career.
“I really thought that one of us, Greg or me, would run better than the
69 I ran last night, but nobody did. What can I say,” reflected Line on
his prediction. “I thought either Greg or I would do better and Kurt
Johnson came close with his pass this morning. I was wrong on the
prediction. I stand corrected.
“We hurt the engine in this morning’s session, otherwise I though we
would have gone faster. We damaged something internally, but we haven’t
taken it apart yet. So we changed engines and the new one seems to be
as good as the one we hurt. I still believe we have one of the best, if
not the best, cars out here. I’d rather be in our position than
everybody else’s’.”
In tomorrow’s first round, Line squares off against Max Taylor, who
qualified No. 16 with a pass of 6.740 seconds at 204.98 mph.
Line, who was born in Wright, Minn., and now lives in Terrell, N.C.,
begins his quest for the Schuck’s Auto Supply Nationals Pro Stock title
on Sunday, July 23, with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11
a.m. Time is local Seattle time (PT) and subject to change at anytime.
