WJ Will Roll Off 10th at Pacific Raceways

 

Event:  19th Annual Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals

Warren Johnson completed a solid qualifying effort on Saturday at the
Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals in Kent, WA, capturing the 10th starting
position for Sunday's final eliminations.  In three of the four
qualifying sessions at Pacific Raceways Johnson's GM Performance Parts
GTO was among the best in the highly competitive Pro Stock division.  

 

Although an issue with the fuel system prevented the six-time NHRA
champion from taking full advantage of the best conditions of time
trials on Saturday morning, he was still able to secure his position in
the field with his 6.724-second, 204.66 mph pass.  Coming back on his
final attempt to make yet another run that was among the five best in
the category for the session, "The Professor" was quietly optimistic
about his team's chances for race day.

 

"Overall, even though we're not pleased with the position we ended up
in, we're happy with the progress we've made.  If you look at the big
picture, we've hopefully turned the corner on this thing permanently,
which will allow us to be more effective in qualifying and on race day
for the rest of the year.   Progress being what it is, we just need to
file off the sharp corners and we'll be in good shape.

 

"This GM Performance Parts GTO made four runs down the race track with
no issues.  Realizing no one was going to improve in that last session,
we really got after it, trying to see how ugly we could make it.  Even
though it rattled the tires a little in third gear because I over sped
the engine, it still went down the race track and made a pretty decent
run, which was fourth quickest for the session.  We're right with the
good cars, so now we just have to make the leap so they're trying to
keep up with us."
