KJ Opens Seattle Qualifying in Seventh

Event: 19th Annual Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals

Day/Date: Friday, July 21, 2006

Location: Pacific Raceways, Kent, WA

Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team opened their qualifying
effort for the Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals in fine fashion on Friday,
making two solid runs down the Pacific Raceways quarter-mile, recording
a best effort of 6.744 seconds at 205.13 mph. However, even with their
seventh place standing, within moments of returning to their pits after
their second run, the ultra-competitive Johnson was already looking for
ways to improve their performance during one of Saturday's final two
attempts in Kent, WA.

"We made a few changes when we first got here that our race car didn't
like based on what we ran today. Our first run wasn't so bad, but it
didn't do anything in the back half, so we made a few changes for
tonight, and even though it picked up, it could have been better.

"For example, when we compare our numbers to what the cars at the top of
the page are running, we know it's a bit off. Therefore, we'll change
the set-up back to where we ran fast in Englishtown and St. Louis, and
see what we can do to move up during tomorrow's sessions, putting our
ACDelco Cobalt in a better spot for race day."
