Two Main Types Of Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Are Available On The Market: Indirect And Direct

DUBLIN, Ireland--July 19, 2006--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c39694) has announced the addition of "Global Market Review of Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) - Forecasts to 2012, 2006 Edition" to their offering.

In this third edition of this report, we review the key market drivers for automotive TPMS and we update the market analysis and include comments from the key players. Our product fitment forecasts in chapter two predict in some detail how the market will evolve in Western Europe and North America from 2000 through 2012. Also new in this edition, we initiate coverage of TPMS activity in the emerging markets and an updated review of new product developments in chapter three. Chapter four provides brief profiles of the major manufacturers, namely, Beru, Schrader Electronics and SmarTire Systems.

There are basically two main types of tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) available on the market: indirect and direct.

Indirect systems are those which use algorithms to interpret signals in ABS brake system. It uses wheel speed sensors and can detect a deflated tyre because it rotates more slowly.

Direct are those which use separate radio sensors mounted in each wheel which detect deflation and then transmit that information to the driver via a radio frequency signal.

TPMS manufacturers are working on next generation systems, which will be battery-less, integrated into the remote keyless entry system (to contain cost) and tyre embedded. With either system, warning lights, messages on the dashboard or audible warnings alert drivers to drops in tyre pressure.

This report reviews the key market drivers for automotive TPMS, addressing a number of topics, including:

-- What will tomorrow's TPMS technology offer?

-- What is the potential for a move to battery-less operation, perhaps using Bluetooth and other bi-directional solutions?

-- How fast is the European market growing?

-- What are the factors driving demand for TPMS in Europe?

-- When could we see legislation for pressure monitoring in Europe?

-- What are the prospects for TPMS in the Asian market?

-- What is the North American market for TPMS worth?

-- How much could the European TPMS market be worth by 2012?

-- What are the market price trends for direct TPMS following the introduction of legislation in the US?

-- Who leads the European market for TPMS? What are the market shares of the competitors? How will this change?
