Flying Lizard Readies for Portland Grand Prix, Halfway Mark of ALMS Season
July 19, 2006--Portland, Oregon--Flying Lizard Motorsports arrives in Portland today for this Saturday's Portland Grand Prix, which is the sixth contest of the ten-race 2006 American Le Mans Series season. The Lizards are currently first in the ALMS GT2 team and drivers championship points (with Johannes van Overbeek in the team's No. 45 Porsche), having finished on the podium at every race so far this season. The driver line up for Portland will be van Overbeek and Wolf Henzler in the No. 45 Porsche and Darren Law and Seth Neiman in the No. 44 Porsche.
This year there is only one week between the Portland Grand Prix and the preceding race, so the team headed directly to Portland from Salt Lake City, where they competed in last Saturday's Utah Grand Prix. "Luckily we did not have any major problems with the cars last week, so we are in good shape going into this week's race prep," said Flying Lizard crew chief Tommy Sadler.
Sadler commented on what to expect this weekend, "The heat is definitely going to be an issue. Based on the latest forecast, it could be even hotter than it was in 2004 and that's going to be really tough on everyone. All four drivers will have cool suits, which will help. It's an evening race, which will also help in terms of temperature, but the tradeoff is that that the drivers will have to deal with the glare during sunset because the front straight points directly West. From a strategy perspective, there will most likely be more cautions at Portland than in Utah, which means our pit stop timing here will be very important."
From the Pits
The Portland Grand Prix starts at 6 pm. Pacific Time on Saturday July 22. The race will be broadcast on CBS on Sunday, July 23 starting at 3 pm Eastern Time.
