Only Three Sponsorships Remaining for the Paul W. Smith Golf Classic
DETROIT, July 18 -- Tournament organizers are happy to announce that due to the overwhelming support from the local business community, only three sponsorship opportunities remain for the much- anticipated 2006 Paul W. Smith Golf Classic.
Title Sponsor News/Talk 760 WJR returns again with Ford Motor Company; General Motors; DaimlerChrysler; Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc.; and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan as Presenting Sponsors. Joining as Presenting Sponsor this year is Compuware Corporation.
The 2006 Paul W. Smith Golf Classic will take place on Monday, August 21 at the Detroit Golf Club, a 219-acre club that features two beautifully wooded courses. The Golf Classic will feature two shotgun starts on the North and South courses, fast pace of play, gift items, lunch, cocktail reception, strolling buffet dinner and awards presentation.
The popular "Beat the Pro" contest returns again with tournament participants testing their swings against renowned PGA instructor Rick Smith, and PGA Pro Evan "Big Cat" Williams, on the course. Smith is consistently ranked as one of the top five instructors in the world by Golf Digest and one of America's "Top 100 Teachers" by Golf Magazine. Currently, Smith is the coach of one of the world's most accomplished golfers, Phil Mickelson. Mickelson is presently the 4th ranked golfer in the world.
The tournament is expected to be one of the top fundraisers of the year for Think Detroit PAL. The outcome of a recent merger between Detroit PAL and Think Detroit, Think Detroit PAL is a non-profit organization that relies on contributions from individual donors, foundations and corporations. In partnership with the Detroit Police Department and community volunteers, Think Detroit PAL builds character in young people through athletic, academic and leadership development programs, serving nearly 13,000 kids with the help of 1,500 volunteers.
