CLAUSON, MACLEOD, ARMSTRONG TAME NEW CASTLE
INDIANAPOLIS – Bryan Clauson, Alison MacLeod and Dakoda Armstrong each
scored wins last Wednesday in USAC “Wednesday Night Thunder” action at Mt.
Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind., and two of those will aim for consecutive
victories this week at the 3/10-mile track.
Clauson was unstoppable in the No. 7 Armstrong Farms/Bunge machine in USAC
Regional Midget Car Series action. He led 26 of the 30 laps at Mt. Lawn,
beating Bobby Smith, Travis Young, Alex Pruett and Mel Kenyon to the stripe.
With his third-place finish, Young pulled to within 49 points of point
leader Scott Thoman, who suffered problems in his heat races and finished
10th in the feature after jumping into another car. Young also made his
feature appearance in another machine. The series will see a different
winner this week as Clauson returns to USAC National Sprint Car Series
competition.
After weeks of frustration at the track, MacLeod claimed her first USAC Ford
Focus victory of the season, leading 21 of the 25 laps after taking the
point from Shannon McIntosh, who shared with MacLeod the front row. From
there, MacLeod piloted the No. 4 Beast/Ford Focus to the win ahead of James
Robertson, Tate Martz, Tyler Irwin and Andy Nock. Robertson assumed the
point lead from Zach Schiff, who finished 13th. Martz jumped into second in
the standings.
Former USAC Kenyon Midget Car Series champion Armstrong gave his father
Craig his second victory of the evening, this in the Yamaha-powered cars.
Armstrong took the lead from point leader Chris Windom on Lap 6 and was
never headed in beating Windom, Jordan Pennington, Sammy Imel and cousin
Caleb Armstrong. Craig Armstrong also owns the car Clauson took to Victory
Lane in the Regional Midgets.
Windom leads the points now by 31 over Imel.
