SATURDAY AT AUTOBOOKS - THE SULLIVAN COLLECTION HEADS FOR
THE GLEN
AUTOBOOKS-AEROBOOKS NEWS BULLETIN
SATURDAY JULY 15 FOR IMMEDIATE USE
Burbank, Calif. - - The atmosphere at Autobooks was different last Saturday … Oh sure it was busy, always is … We open early (8AM) on Saturday mornings for our regular coffee and donuts cruise. There were also a lot of “out-of-towners” in town and warming up for the superb Art Center Car Classic in nearby Pasadena on Sunday.
But the buzz really WAS different on July 15. Mark Steigerwald was in town and at Autobooks to see, discuss, and take possession of “The Sullivan Collection” … the motorsports-related papers, photos, and personal items of the late Doctor Frank Falkner.
Steigerwald is the curator and librarian of the International Motor Racing Research Center (www.racingarchives.org <http://www.racingarchives.org>) located in Watkins Glen, New York. The Center is a world-class repository of motorsports history that's dedicated to its preservation for the use of historians as well as for the enjoyment of the general public.
The Autobooks staff was very pleased by the number of special guests from the world of motorsport who stopped by to get a close-up and personal look at the Doctor's materials before they were whisked back to Watkins Glen to be cataloged, cross-referenced and subsequently honored with a special display of their own.
“What a great couple of days we had in southern California,” Steigerwald remarked as he ran for the red-eye back to the Empire State. “Jay Leno's shop on Friday morning, a classic hot rod cruise-in at the historic Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake on Friday night, the Art Center lawn event on Sunday, and the whole day at Autobooks with so many new and old friends on Saturday.”
Yeah, Saturday was quite a day for everyone involved, especially the faithful at Autobooks.
THANKS!
