REICHERT, SNYDER LEAD LUCAS OIL SERIES WINNERS AT ROUTE 66 RACEWAY
JOLIET, Ill. - Eliminations are complete at Route 66 Raceway's
NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, the third of six events in NHRA
North Central division competition. Bill Reichert, Owosso, Mich., scored
his second Top Alcohol Dragster title in the division and Mick Snyder,
Demotte, Ind., grabbed the Top Alcohol Funny Car trophy.
Reichert, who qualified in the second spot, made his best pass
of the weekend in the final, 5.358 seconds at 270.81 mph, to beat out No. 4
qualifier Lee Callaway. Callaway, Channelview, Texas, ran 5.500 seconds at
257.92 mph.
Defending division Top Alcohol Funny Car champion Snyder took
the win over top qualifier, Jay Payne of Claremont, Calif. Snyder out ran
Payne with a 5.792-second, 252.00 mph pass to Payne's 5.826-second, 255.34
mph effort.
In Comp Eliminator, Bo Butner, Clarksville, Ind., beat out his
teammate and reigning national champion, Jeff Taylor of Floyds Knobs, Ind.
Charlie Bohannon, Valley Station, Ky., drove his '67 Camaro to the Super
Stock win, beating Dan Kyle, Lawrenceburg, Ind., and his '87 Firebird. The
Stock Eliminator crown went to Brian Livengood, Plainfield, Ind., as he
wheeled his '69 Camaro around Larry Hodge, LaPlace, Ill., and his '75 Omega.
In Super Comp, Brina Splingaire, Lemont, Ill., scored the win over Elwood,
Ill., resident Bill Ellis. Super Gas racer Chris Tenuta, Kenosha, Wis.,
earned the win over Steven Bailey, Plainfield, Ill., and in Super Street,
Matt Lauterbach, Springfield, Ill., grabbed the win over Roger Weaver of
Indianapolis. Joining them in the winner's circle was Top Sportsman winner
Reed Hughes, Terre Haute, Ill., who beat out Brian Brown, Coal City, Ill.
NHRA North Central Division racers head to St. Louis for the
next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. Gateway International Raceway
will host the series August 4-6.
