2006 NHRA POWERade DRAG RACING SERIES
ROUND 13 OF 23
MOPAR MILE-HIGH NHRA NATIONALS
BANDIMERE SPEEDWAY
Morrison, Colo.
Race Date: July 14-16, 2006
Morrison, Colo., (July 15, 2006)- The UPS Top Fuel dragster had a rough
final day of qualifying at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere
Speedway on Saturday afternoon. Battling extreme weather conditions that
included a 142 degree racetrack, ambient temperature of 100 degrees, and an adjusted
altitude of 8,305 feet, most fuel teams found it challenging to get the
horsepower to the slick track. Driver Bob Vandergriff Jr. had his hands full as he
peddled his way through the Colorado quarter mile, producing runs of
7.863/98.46 mph. and 5,744/191.08 mph. After landing his team in the No. 10 position,
Vandergriff is looking forward to his first round match-up with rookie Hillary
Will.
"Saturday was tough for everyone," explained Vandergriff. "We need to be
on our toes on Sunday. Anything can happen, you might run well and get beat
or you might run poorly and turn on the win light. One thing is certain, there
will be lots of adversity. It is our intention to come out on top.
