Electrical Gremlins Relegate
Kanaan to 12th Place Finish at Nashville
LEBANON, Tenn. (July 15, 2006) -Tony Kanaan and the #11 Team 7-Eleven car had a promising
run disrupted by electrical problems, resulting in a 12th place finish Saturday night at the Firestone Indy 200
at Nashville Superspeedway.
Starting from sixth position on the starting grid, Kanaan made another great start and gained three
spots on the opening lap. He continued to run among the top three until lap 45 when the car suddenly lost
power. Pitting under green-flag conditions, the Team 7-Eleven crew worked to diagnose the problem,
eventually changing out several electrical components. Kanaan was able to rejoin the race, but was 17
laps off the pace and in 17th position.
Driving laps comparable to the lead cars, Kanaan worked his way through the field in an attempt to
gain as many points as possible, eventually finishing in 12th place.
Scott Dixon took the victory with Dan Wheldon second, Vitor Meira third, Danica Patrick fourth and
Helio Castroneves rounding out the top five.
Through nine events this season, Kanaan stands sixth in the driver point standings with 224 points.
Next up for Kanaan and the entire IndyCar Series will be the ABC Supply Co./A.J. Foyt 225 on
Sunday, July 23, at The Milwaukee Mile. The event will be televised live by ESPN beginning at 1:30 p.m.
(EDT). It can also be heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers by tuning into XM channel 145.
Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I don't really know what happened tonight and I don't want to know. This is just one of those years
where it seems like every time we have a good car something happens. Team 7-Eleven kept its spirit up
and we got as many points as we could tonight. I'd rather blow up or break while running up front than be in
the back like we were tonight. We did have a fast car tonight and it's a shame to have had the luck we did."
Kim Green, President, Andretti Green Racing:
"Obviously, we had a fast race car. Tony made an awesome start and drove a great race.
Unfortunately, we had some electrical problems which cost us quite a few laps in the pits. It's a bit
disappointing because I think we had a car that was capable of winning in the end. But Team 7-Eleven
hung in there even though we were a lot of laps down and picked up some very valuable points."
