EASTERN CONFERENCE JR. CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT BRISTOL DRAGWAY
BRISTOL, Tenn. - Champions were crowned today in eight
individual categories along with the Team Champion, Pacemakers Team 1
from Xenia, Ohio, at the 2006 NHRA O'Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing
League Eastern Conference Finals.
It was a tight race in the Team Category with Pacemakers
Team 1 and Silver Dollar Raceway from Reynolds, Georgia being decided by
a double tie breaker. Pacemakers ultimately won the title and each
member of the team received a Wally trophy as well as a $300 U.S.
Savings Bond.
For the first time in NHRA Junior Drag Racing history, a
brother and sister team took home a trophy in the same year. Parker and
Schafer Suggs from Warner Robins, Ga., won in the 12 year-old and 13
year-old categories respectively.
Nikolette Schroeder of Aveon Lake, Ohio, in the 8-9 year-old category
made it to the winners circle, as well as Courtney Wright of Fairview,
Tenn., in the 10 year-old category.
Winning in the 11 year-old category was Jacob Morris of
Wallingford, Pa. Morris defeated Candi Beth Glasco of Friendswood,
Texas.
The 14 year-olds battled consistently, but in the end it
was Tyler Nay of Newcomerstown, Ohio, that took home the trophy. Kara
Stricker of Mohnton, Pa., in the 15 year-old category, finished on top
as well.
Leading the 16-17 year-olds was Stephanie Fordyce of
Williamstown, N.J., who defeated Grier Bauer of Yorktown, Va.
Each of the winners in the individual categories took
home a Wally Trophy and a $5000 U.S. Savings Bond.
In the special awards ceremony, Best Appearing Crew went
to the crew for 13 year-old Allison Bell out of Hershey, Pa., Best
Appearing Car went to April Spell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Best
Engineered Car was awarded to Joey Fellenbaum of Landsville, Pa.
Atlanta Dragway won the Team Spirit award. This award
goes to the team that shows the best sportsmanship and support for
fellow teammates and competitors.

States are up next competing in the NHRA Western Conference Finals on
