CAPPS GETS A HIGH-FIVE IN DENVER QUALIFYING

MORRISON, Colo. (July 15, 2006) - Funny Car points leader Ron Capps captured
the No. 5 qualifying position for Sunday's Mopar Mile-High Nationals by
posting a 4.941-second elapsed time at 307.37 mph in Friday night's cooler
session.

In his three other attempts on Bandimere Speedway's quarter-mile, the driver
of the Brut Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car set a 9.512/85.93 in the opening
session in extremely hot conditions, another tire-smoking 9.189/88.26 in the
third round, followed by a 5.288/217.60 pass in the final session, in which
the car lost a cylinder and moved to the left before Capps shut it down.

"Obviously, the (cooler) Friday-night sessions have always been the ones you
want to get down the track," said Capps, who also receives support from
Knoll Gas-Torco Race Fuels. "That was the situation here. Although the last
session cooled down a little bit, Friday night was still by far the session
in which you had to make your move.

"And we did a great job of that. Having lane choice here could be a pretty
good factor Sunday morning. The left lane seems to be a little bit better
these first two days. First round is at noon instead of 11 a.m. Ace (crew
chief Ed McCulloch), (team consultant Dan) Olson and the Brut Dodge guys did
a great job. It's tough to get back in the groove (after two weeks off)
starting off here in Denver, and they did a great job of getting the Brut
Dodge down the track.

"We were trying different things today in the last session; trying to set up
for race day and we feel pretty confident. It put a cylinder out. Once
you've made your run to put you in the show Friday night, things aren't
going to change much on Saturday. You hear the NASCAR guys talk about their
race day setup and this last session of ours is kind of like their Happy
Hour. You want to get yourself ready for race day. So, if you're going to
try something to see if the track will hold it, today is the day to do it,
because we will see the same conditions - nice and hot - tomorrow.

"It's better to try something to see if it works today than to try it
tomorrow. We'll be good. We're confident."

Capps faces Bob Gilbertson in first round of eliminations on Sunday.
