Guy Cosmo Sits Out Utah Grand Prix
With the B-K Motorsports Mazda LMP2 car sidelined after damage from
an incident at the New England Grand Prix in Lime Rock, Guy Cosmo
expressed disappointment in missing the Utah Grand Prix and the
inaugural American Le Mans Series race at Miller Motorsports Park.
"It is quite a mixed bag of emotions," expressed Cosmo. "First and
foremost, I'm pleased that Jaime Bach came away from the incident
unharmed. I feel badly for our team because they work so hard and we
all do this because we love to compete. Utah will be the teams first
missed race and Lime Rock was our first DNF in 13 ALMS starts. So, I
join with the team when I say, I'm truly disappointed."
Cosmo's agenda is filling up with Grand Am Rolex Series events, but
his hope is to find a seat with an American Le Mans Series team in
the interim.
"I'm hoping the team can get the car repaired and sorted out without
missing anymore races," added Cosmo. "But, I'm a driver and don't
like standing on the sidelines. I'm actively notifying teams of my
situation and am hopeful I can help with someone's championship
efforts until we know B-K Motorsports' timeline and direction."
B-K Motorsports team manager, Marcus Haselgrove, made the following
statements in an announcement earlier this weekend.
“We have been working significant hours to get things repaired in
time, and we did not want to take any chances with the components on
the car that have been hard to get replaced quickly…we simply could
not get some of the necessary spares in our hands fast enough,??
commented Marcus Haselgrove, Team Manager/Technical Director for B-K
Motorsports.
“We talked with KUMHO and Road & Track and we all agreed that taking
our time and having everything in place is the only scenario. We are
making plans to rejoin the ALMS as soon as possible….and we can all
hear the echos of the Mazda rotary power again,?? added Haselgrove.
The Utah Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 10-race 2006 American Le
Mans Series, will start at 6 p.m. MDT (8 p.m. EDT) on Saturday, July
15. The two-hour, 45-minute race will be televised tape-delayed by
CBS Sports on Sunday, July 16, at 2 p.m. EDT.
Guy Cosmo's extensive background with open-wheel formula cars and
