NHRA Kurt Johnson Friday Qualifying Update: KJ Sits Sixth at Denver Qualifying Midpoint

Event: 27th Annual NHRA Mile-High Nationals

Day/Date: Friday, July 14, 2006

Location: Bandimere Speedway, Denver, CO

The second half of the 2006 POWERade Drag Racing Season kicked off on
Friday with two qualifying attempts at the NHRA Mile-High Nationals in
Denver, CO. With the combination of unseasonable high temperatures and
the mile-high altitude at Bandimere Speedway putting the brakes on the
naturally-aspirated Pro Stock cars, a premium was placed on making the
most of the conditions.

Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team did a solid job of
adapting to the challenging conditions, with their best pass of
7.098-seconds, 194.24 mph earning them the sixth starting spot midway
through the qualifying procedure. Despite this solid effort, K.J. was
already looking for ways to improve his standing during Saturday's final
twin attempts.

"Tonight's run was a nice one, one we can build on. We were right at
the top of the page in sixty feet, so we'll have to work on picking it
up from there. Tomorrow's morning session should have conditions
similar to what we had tonight, or pretty close to it. With that in
mind, we'll see what we can do to adjust our ACDelco Cobalt and move up
the ladder, putting ourselves in an even better position for Sunday's
final eliminations."
