Flying Lizard Qualifies Fourth and Sixth for Utah Grand Prix
July 14, 2006--Tooele, Utah--In scorching temperatures today at the new Miller Motorsports Park, Flying Lizard qualified fourth and sixth for Saturday's Utah Grand Prix, the fifth contest of the ten-race, 2006 American Le Mans Series. Wolf Henzler brought the No. 45 in fourth on the GT2 grid and Darren Law brought the No. 44 in sixth, out of a nine-car GT2 field.
"It was the most I could get out of the car today," said Henzler. "We are not quite to our race setup yet and on a long course with so many turns, that takes its toll. But I am confident that we'll be where we need to be by the race tomorrow. I'm getting used to the track now which helps a lot - it took a while to get comfortable across the fast corners and learn what we can get from the car in each lap." Henzler will be joined in the No. 45 for the race by teammate Johannes van Overbeek.
Darren Law added, "Overall, I'm happy with the performance of the No. 44. Timewise, I think we'll be in the hunt tomorrow and we'll have a comfortable race car. We made some fairly significant changes from session to session over the last few days and I think we are close to an optimal race setup for the car." He commented on the track, "The track is fast and fun. One challenge during the race will be the glare, especially in the second stint as the sun sets. It was also clear during today's practice sessions how much dust there will be. When a car goes off track here, it raises a lot of dust and brings a lot of rocks onto the track. I expect that will affect everyone during the race." Seth Neiman will be Darren's co-driver in the No. 44 Porsche.
The Lizards are first in the points chase for the ALMS GT2 Team and Drivers' Championships, with Johannes van Overbeek and Wolf Henzler first and second, respectively, in the Drivers Championship.
