BimmerWorld Utah Grand Prix - Pre Race report
BimmerWorld Upbeat For Inaugural SPEED World Challenge Touring Car
Race In Salt Lake City
Though the BimmerWorld team was disappointed at the outcome of their
outing at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, having stayed out west to test
in Utah, the team is upbeat with the progress being made with their
two new BMW 325i E90 race cars.
The Infineon race saw James Clay undable to start the race due to a
broken axle. Teammates Matt Richmond and Seth Thomas finished 15th
and 16th respectively while Paul Goldman finished 22nd.
"Sonoma is behind us," said BimmerWorld owner, James Clay. "I had an
issue in practice were my foot became lodged between the accelerator
and clutch pedals in the new car. I managed to gather it up without
causing too much damage. Then I was unable to start due to the broken
axle."
"We have to take things like this in stride and chalk it up to
development," said an optimistic Clay. "These are teething problems
that you have to overcome. All-inall, we were coming up to speed
nicely as the weekend progressed. What makes it disappointing is
knowing how hard the crew worked. The BimmerWorld guys don't give up
and I couldn't be any prouder of them."
"We're all very upbeat about this weekend at Miller Motorsport Park,
though," Clay continued. "We stayed out west a few extra days and did
some testing in Utah and it was very productive. I feel like we are
really starting to figure the new E90 cars out and the whole team was
encouraged by the results. Given the fact that the track is brand new
to all the teams, it levels the playing field tremendously."
Seth Thomas echoed Clay's thoughts. "Sonoma was a decent race weekend
for us," said Thomas. "My car was very good in qualifying. We changed
the setup for the race, though, and unfortunately it didn't work out
as well as we had hoped. We did learn a lot about the E90 and I
think we've shown that it will be a fast car."
"Our test at Miller the week after Sonoma and was a great success,"
noted Seth. "It was a terrific opportunity to learn about the track
and the new car. This is going to be a great track to race on and I
can't wait for the weekend. This should be the weekend we really
showcase our new cars"
This is the inaugural Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports Park in
Salt Lake City and will run on Saturday, July 15. The race will be
televised tape-delayed on Saturday, July 22, on SPEED.
