O'REILLY'S JR. CONFERENCE FINALS KICKS OFF AT BRISTOL DRAGWAY 
 
                BRISTOL, Tenn. - Over 600 kids from 20 different states
and eastern Canada have converged on Bristol Dragway to compete in the
NHRA O'Reilly Auto Parts  Jr. Drag Racing League Eastern Conference
Finals presented by Pure Power.  Jr. Racers, ranging in age from 8 -17,
from the NHRA's Northeast, Southeast, North Central, and South Central
divisions took the track today for two rounds of time trials in
preparation for eliminations that will start on Friday.  
                Defending team champion, Silver Dollar Raceway, is the
track to beat in the team category while individual trophies will be
awarded to winners of each age group.  Driving half-scale dragsters
powered by five horsepower motors, Jr. Racers will share a purse of
$98,000 and take part in a week full of fun filled activities.
Thursday's event included Movie Night, where all competitors and their
families were invited to watch a screening of "Ice Age 2" projected on a
45 x 40 foot screen. 
                Last year's winners included Zachary Eyring, Glen
Burnie, Md., 8-9; Jamison Lopochonsky, Greenville, Pa., 10; Kelsey Lynn,
Marietta, Ga., 11; William Butterworth, Goodlettsville, Tenn., 12;
George Farkouh, Brooklyn, N.Y., 13; Michael Bloomfield, Fairfield, Ohio,
14; Eric Peterka, Gilbertsville, Pa., 15; Jake Sealey, Aiken, S.C.,
16-17.
                Racing on Friday will begin at 8 a.m. with one round of
time trials followed by the first round of eliminations in each
category.  Gates open at 7:00 a.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday.  
                General admission tickets are $15 each day and children
6 and under are admitted free.  Bristol Dragway is located in Bristol,
