Mechanical Contractors & UA Pipefitters Fail to Reach Collective Bargaining Agreement
DETROIT, July 12 -- Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) Detroit and Local 636 UA Pipefitters have failed to reach a collective bargaining agreement. The MCA represents over 160 Mechanical Contractors and Service Employers who provide over 4,000 high-paying jobs in Southeast Michigan.
The MCA presented two proposals that both included a significant pay increase of over 3%. Local 636 voted down a $3.60 increase over two years for a total of $55/hour. This follows a $10/hour increase under the last agreement. The MCA members believe that this was substantial relative to the current statewide economic conditions. The Local 636, UA members did not believe that the pay increase and terms were adequate. The Local 636 strike effort is expected to begin immediately.
