PPG Industries Appoints Harrington Manager of Color Styling For Automotive Coatings

TROY, Mich., July 12 -- PPG Industries has named Jane E. Harrington manager of color styling for its automotive coatings business unit.

In her new position, Harrington is responsible for creating, planning and managing PPG's annual global color show - which showcases new color creations and the latest technical advancements - to support automakers as they select and develop colors that enhance the brand identity and image of the vehicles they bring to market.

Harrington is also responsible for working with automaker design teams to develop color programs and for marketing PPG's automotive coatings capabilities. In addition, she serves as the internal liaison between divisional color groups within PPG and is a member of corporate committees that support efforts to promote color as a key competency at the company.

Harrington began her automotive career in 1983 at PPG as a sales trainee. During her 23 years at the company, Harrington has held various positions of increasing responsibility in color development and styling.

Most recently, she served as senior color designer, where the majority of her focus was color design and development for Ford Motor Co. and Mazda.

Prior, Harrington was responsible for the logo design and aesthetic arrangement of color show displays and other color show collateral materials. In addition, she also advised pace car color combinations and graphics for PPG's past sponsorship of the Indy Racing League.

Before her career at PPG, she worked as an illustrator and layout designer for the University of Wisconsin News and Publications Office in Eau Claire.

Harrington graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire and studied automotive illustration at the Center for Creative Studies/College of Art and Design in Detroit. She is member of the Detroit Colour Council and the Color Marketing Group.

The Global Design and Color Marketing Team at PPG combines research of global automotive, interior design, fashion, product design, contract and consumer markets, architectural coatings, cosmetics and packaging with insight of regional influences and knowledge of new technologies to gain a better understanding of international color preferences.

For more than 20 years, PPG has been tracking and presenting color creations and the latest technical information to automakers worldwide. In addition to identifying automotive color trends, PPG also helps define trends for aerospace, aftermarket, architectural, general industry, glass and trade sale products.

On the forefront of innovation in decorative and protective coatings and environmental application concerns since 1927, PPG has long been a leader in helping automakers advance technologies and processes used in the application of automotive coatings.

Pittsburgh-based PPG is the world's leading manufacturer of transportation coatings and a global supplier of industrial and packaging coatings, and a leading producer of architectural coatings, primarily in North America. In addition, PPG manufactures flat and fabricated glass, continuous-strand fiber glass and chemicals. Sales were US$10.2 billion in 2005.
