Flying Lizard Heads to Utah for First ALMS Event at North America's Longest Road Racing Course
July 11, 2006--Tooele, Utah--The Flying Lizard Motorsports Squad arrived in Utah today to prepare for this weekend's Utah Grand Prix at the new Miller Motorsports Park facility near Salt Lake City. The Utah Grand Prix is the fifth of ten races in the ALMS 2006 season. The Lizards head into the race first in the points chase for the ALMS GT2 Team and Drivers' Championships, with Flying Lizard Porsche No. 45 drivers Johannes van Overbeek and Wolf Henzler first and second, respectively, in the Drivers' Championship. They'll be joined at Utah by teammates Darren Law and Seth Neiman in the Flying Lizard No. 44 Porsche.
Completed just over a month ago, the 4.5 mile, 24-turn circuit is the longest road racing course in North America and includes a 3500-foot straightaway. Johannes commented on the course, "It's very well designed: it's long and has a good flow that lets us get up to speed and includes some very high speed corners. At the same time, you really have to balance between precision and aggression to get the most out of the car for a lap. It's a track where just one mistake can cause you a chunk of time and the race."
"The Utah Grand Prix marks the halfway point for the ALMS season," added Lizard crew chief Tommy Sadler. "So far this season, in GT2 you've seen all four manufacturers on the podium at least once. I think every manufacturer in our class has a chance to do well here because of the variety offered by the course. It will come down to the drivers' abilities to learn the course quickly and make the right tradeoffs to take advantage of the combination of high speed straights and corners."
