WESTERN MIDGETS, SPRINTS RESUME JULY 22

AT MADERA AND SALT LAKE CITY;

HUNT "SWEEPS" STOCKTON MIDGET, SPRINT FINALES

            Tony Hunt and Jerome Rodela will lead the USAC Western Sprint and Midget Series to July 22 races at Salt Lake City, Utah and Madera, Calif. respectively. Hunt owns a 57-point lead over Mike Murgoitio in the Sprint standings, while Rodela's lead over Tyler Brown in the Midgets stands at just three.

            Hunt became only the 16th driver in USAC history to accomplish the same-day Sprint/Midget "sweep" by taking both ends of Saturday's "doubleheader" at the Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway. The events were USAC's last at the storied track, which has announced its closing at the end of this season.

            In the USAC/BCRA Midget race, Hunt, of Lincoln, Calif., led the final three laps in the Bob Rosen Mr. Espresso Beast/Fontana after Bradley Galedrige spun in turn two. John Sarale finished second ahead of Rodela, Chase Barber and Tyler Brown.

            In the USAC/CASA Sprint race Hunt, who was also the fastest qualifier, led the final 28 laps in Alan Kaiser's Thompson Toyota/Paul Oil Company Eagle/Chevy. Shauna Hogg finished second after leading 12 laps, followed by Mike Murgoitio, Brian McClish, who also led 10 laps, and Glenn Hopper.

            The July 22 Salt Lake City Sprint race will also award Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car points and Jim Waters and Jimmy Wysong will continue their battle for the 2006 series title.

            Hunt's "sweep" was the second this year in USAC competition. Jerry Coons Jr. accomplished the feat in the June 9 National "doubleheader" at Eldon, Mo.
