IMPROVEMENT CONTINUES IN TORONTO; ROCKETSPORTS READY TO GO RACING

TORONTO, Canada (July 8, 2006) – Preparing to make his third Champ Car start tomorrow, Tonis Kasemets participated in final qualifying today in Toronto, Canada in preparation for Round Seven of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford and saw improvements to the car, while he continues to find the best way to maneuver his #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone Champ Car around the 1.755-mile temporary street course at Exhibition Place.

Qualifying this afternoon for Kasemets and the team was planned accordingly: change his driving approach a bit by trying out different lines and braking deeper when heading into the turns. This strategy was developed with the hopes to find more speed and improve on the lap times the team had currently been running.

“We are trying to find more speed in the #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports car,” said Kasemets about the goal for today and his qualifying run. “The session went as we had planned. We gained some time, but there is still more work that needs to be done. We improved a little today, but not as much as we had hoped. We will keep doing what we did today for tomorrow and during the race, and I hope to just have a good, clean, safe race tomorrow afternoon.”

The race will consist of 86 laps, and one thing that Kasemets does have going for him is the consistency to finishing races. He is two-for-two heading into this weekend and looks to keep the momentum going, as every race he competes in and finishes is a great opportunity for the rookie Champ Car driver. Kasemets will start 17th on the grid, after he posted his best time of the weekend of a 1:01.182 (103.266 mph).

“I would like to thank the Rocketsports team for all their hard work and efforts,” sincerely stated Kasemets. “We ran a lot of laps today and stayed out of trouble so that made it a positive day for us.”

Kasemets will have a little more track time before the start of the race tomorrow. There is a thirty-minute Warm Up session at 8:30 a.m. local time and the race is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. The race can be seen live on CBS Sports with coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. EST.
