Coughlin pursues more bracket racing glory in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Hoping to build his recent success in major E.T.
bracket racing events, Jeg Coughlin Jr., will compete in this weekend’s Tenn-Tuck
Triple Crown at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky. Coughlin, who
has already won more than $30,000 this season in bracket race winnings, will
have the opportunity to pad his bankroll at the annual Tenn-Tuck race, which
features three separate events, each with a $10,000 winner’s share. The event
is part of a nine-race series that offers sportsman racers an opportunity to
compete for a share of more than $331,000.
“I've been driving well lately and my cars have been very consistent, so
I've got a lot of confidence heading into this race,?? said the former three-time
NHRA champion. “These Tenn-Tuck races have been around a long time and they
usually attract a lot of great racers, which makes for some great competition.??
Coughlin will be racing two cars in Bowling Green; his Jeg’s Mail Order
dragster and his recently-completed ’67 Chevy II station wagon. Entering two cars
in each of the three races, Coughlin will have six chances to claim a
victory.
“The dragster has been an awesome car all year long and I'm beginning to get
more comfortable in the Chevy II,?? he said. “We've worked hard to make both
cars consistent and our efforts are starting to pay off.??
Coughlin is very familiar with Beech Bend Raceway, having won three Lucas
Oil Series titles there during his career. His father, Jeg Coughlin Sr., also
won a race at Beech Bend Raceway Park while driving his Top Alcohol Dragster in
the mid-1970's.
“I've always enjoyed racing in Bowling Green and I've had some success there
over the years,?? said Coughlin. “The track surface is very good and the
weather doesn't change much, which makes it a driver’s race, which I like. There
is also an amusement park on the grounds, and my brothers and I used to go
there a lot when we were kids. Some of my best childhood memories have come
from this facility.??
