Chassis: Crew Chief Jimmy Elledge and the Target Team have
selected chassis #402 for this weekend's NEXTEL Cup Series race at
Chicagoland Speedway. The car has not competed in '06, but was used
twice last season with driver Casey Mears at the first California race
(22nd-place finish) and the first Dover event (24th).
NEXTEL Cup Points Report: Sorenson and the Target team dropped
three positions to 24th in the overall standings after their 34th-place
effort in the last event at Daytona. The team is 83 points out of the
top 20.
Rookie Round Up: Sorenson is currently third in the Raybestos
Rookie of the Year standings with 151 points. He trails leader Denny
Hamlin by 43 points. Sorenson has captured rookie of the race honors in
three of the 17 races run thus far in '06 (Atlanta - 10th-place finish,
Martinsville - 12th, Michigan - fifth).
Busch Series Update: Sorenson is 20th in the overall Busch
Series driver standings and he is 108 points out of 15th place. The
Discount Tire team is using chassis No. 555 in Chicago, which is the
same car Sorenson led 30 laps with at the 1.5-mile track last season en
route to a 10th-place finish.
Meet Reed in Joliet: Reed Sorenson will stop by the Discount
Tire store located at 1719 W. Jefferson in Joliet, Ill. to meet area
race fans and sign autographs from 4:30 to 6 p.m. CT Thursday, July 6.
Reed Sorenson on Chicagoland...
"I've been anxious to get back to a mile-and-a-half track because that's
where our program is the strongest right now. Most of our best runs
this season have come at the bigger tracks and I'm hoping to turn in
another strong finish this weekend. I've only raced at Chicagoland once
in a Busch car, but we led some laps and overall it was a good race for
us. I like the track and look forward to competing there on Saturday
and Sunday.
"The last two weeks have been tough on the Target team and we've dropped
a few positions in the points. The next stretch of races should be good
though and hopefully we can get ourselves back into the top 20 and shoot
for a top-15 finish before the end of the season. I know this team is
capable of doing so, we just need to catch a few breaks."
