Automotive Engine Expert Dr. Helmut Endres Joins International Truck Engine Group

MELROSE PARK, Ill.--July 5, 2006--

New Vice President of Engineering to Help Lead Key Unit Toward International Truck and Engine Corporation's Bold Growth Goals

International Truck and Engine Corporation today announced the appointment of Dr. Helmut Endres, an acknowledged expert in automotive engine development and strategy, as vice president of engineering of its Engine Group.

Dr. Endres joins International from Volkswagen AG in Germany, where he was most recently executive director of powertrain development for the Volkswagen brand. Dr. Endres replaces Mark Stasell, who returns to International's Truck Group in business development.

Dr. Endres will be responsible for engine engineering and product development for International's line of MaxxForce(TM) diesel engines and engines sold to International customers.

"Helmut is one of the world's leading authorities on diesel engines and has a disciplined approach to design, validation, cost controls and product quality," said Jack Allen, president, Engine Group, International Truck and Engine Corporation. "He will help us focus on our corporate strategy of Great Products, Competitive Cost Structure and Profitable Growth."

In his 25-year career, Dr. Endres has acquired vast technical expertise in both diesel and gasoline engines. He has been with VW in Germany for the past decade, where he most recently led a global team of 2,000 engineers. Among his accomplishments are the development of the high-performance V-10 TDI diesel engine in VW's Touareg SUV and Phaeton luxury sedan, and the introduction of turbo-charged, direct-injection gasoline engines with low-fuel consumption as well as high power and torque.

Previously, Dr. Endres was powertrain development director for Audi (part of Volkswagen Group) for four years. Prior to that, he served as director of gasoline engines for Volkswagen brands for three years. He also spent 13 years with FEV Engine Technology, a global engine development consultancy. He holds a degree in engineering from RWTH Aachen in Germany, as well as a doctorate of engineering and is well known within the global engineering community.

International today is the world's No. 1 diesel engine maker across the 160 to 350 horsepower range. In North America, International has nearly 50 percent share of the diesel pickup engine market, and 40 percent of the market for medium-duty commercial trucks and buses. In South America, International has more than 50 percent market share in the mid-sized pickup/SUV segment and accounts for nearly 40 percent of all diesel engines produced.

Beginning next year, International will offer an expanded line of engines under the MaxxForce(TM) International Diesel Power brand. MaxxForce will become the signature brand of International's global on-highway commercial truck engines. For more information, visit www.maxxforce.com.
