The Hurricane storms to 3rd at Husets!
July 4th, 2006 (Sioux Falls, SD) It has been an up and down season so far
for the Hurricane, Randy Hannagan. Earlier in May, his mother became ill
and Randy left to be by her side missing nearly 3 weeks of racing in the
process. Upon his mother’s recovery he returned to action at Eldora and
recorded a strong 7th place finish. After missing the feature at Terre
Haute the Penthouse Magazine team regrouped and has been on a roll ever
since. The Hurricane currently sits 10th in driver points and has 5 top 5
finishes and 10 top 10 finishes with the latest top 5 coming at Husets
Speedway near Sioux Falls, SD last night.
The evening would start on a positive one for the Penthouse Magazine #1X
Maxim by setting the 5th quickest time and a 4th place finish in the heat
moving him to the dash and the feature. Starting outside the front row of
the dash, Hannagan would blow into the lead and never look back winning by
more than 10 car lengths over Tyler Walker and the first pole of the season
for the San Jose, CA native. The feature would see the Hurricane battle for
the top spot until the left rear began to shrink and tipping the handling
just a bit. The nights eventual winner Terry McCarl was able to make the
pass for 2nd and relegate Hannagan to a 3rd place finish. While the victory
may have eluded Hannagan this time the momentum and confidence builder did
not.
“I really wanted to win this tonight.” Said Hannagan. “We made a change on
the left rear tire and we just out guessed ourselves. It’s a shame really,
the Penthouse car was fast all night long and we had a good shot at getting
a win. It’s not all bad though we had a top 3 finish and continue to get
stronger and stronger. It’s important to be hitting on all cylinders right
now as we head into the month of money. There will be some really strong
cars out there and I know we are definitely one of them.”
The Hurricane and team Penthouse will head to the fast ¼ mile of
Lawrenceburg, IN and then to the high banks of I-55 Speedway in Pevely, Mo
this weekend before heading east and the prestigious month of money.
