Tyler Brown takes lead in Rookie standings
Waterdown youngster takes the lead at Delaware Speedway
WATERDOWN, ONTARIO –Last Friday was a pivotal night in the young career of
14-year-old stockcar driver Tyler Brown. Delaware hosted 27 Late Models
with an influx of cars form upper series such as Allstar, as well as some
regular CASCAR drivers.

Brown qualified his car – just like they do in NASCAR – in the 18th slot.
“My crew chief just told me to lay down one safe lap and they try for more
on the second and that’s all I tried to do,” Brown said of his first
attempt at single car qualifying run.

Brown’s goal was to survive the entire distance. He started off holding his
own until a spin on lap six sent him to the back of the order. “I was a
little to aggressive passing on the inside and I put the left side tires on
the damp area of the track which was still drying after an earlier downpour
and just looped it,” the youngster said of his early spin.

Brown completed his goal, his longest race of his career – 139 laps. It
also was his first time to do a ‘live’ pit stop for fuel and tires. Brown
came home a very respectable 14th.

Crew Chief Glen Brown was happy with his young charge. “I’m ecstatic with
the result. Everyone from the driver on down did a heck of job
tonight. This was a very stout field of race cars and this being the kids
first time in a race this long I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Brown now has his last official off weekend this week and then they are
back in action July 14th at Delaware and will run every weekend until
Labour Day.

For his just reward for a hard night’s work, Brown left Delaware leading
the Rookie of the Year standings.
