Jimmy Kite Returns to Raceway Park for Second PRA Show
CLERMONT, IND., July 3, 2006 - Jimmy Kite, Stockbridge, Ga., will return to
O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis on July 5 for the third scheduled
round of the Premier Racing Association (PRA) Big Car Series. Earlier this
season, the debut of the Big Car Series here was cut short by rain prior the
feature event. Before the rain fell, Kite drove the No. 5 Westcon
Elevator/Westcon Racing Bloomer Engines Beast in the top-five in practice
and the top-ten in qualifications on the .686-mile oval. The track, which
has been known as Indianapolis Raceway Park throughout its storied career is
a favorite of Kite. The success in the shortened May event only adds to the
anticipation the five-time Indianapolis 500 starter has for this weekend's
event.
"I'm definitely looking forward to getting back to IRP," said Kite. "We were
really quick there in May and we ran well at Illiana a few weeks ago. I
guess we'll re-qualify and that's good. We didn't get everything out of the
car in qualifying for May so I hope we can fix that this time. I'm ready to
get back in the car. If I didn't get into one soon, I was seriously
contemplating a professional waffle ball career."
Kite and the Westcon team had an impressive showing in the only PRA event to
run to the checkered flag. After a litany of obstacles at Schererville,
Indiana's Illiana Speedway on June 13., Kite qualified 13th in the field of
former Silver Crown division cars but began a charge to the front. Luck
would turn against the friendly 1997 USAC Silver Crown Rookie of the Year
when the No. 5 unexpectedly jumped out of gear as Kite ran in the top-ten.
The car dropped to the back of the field in the 125 lap feature forcing Kite
to launch a second assault on the flat, difficult to pass track. In
remarkable fashion he devoured the competition reaching as high as sixth
before his beaten tires could holdout no longer. He would fall to eighth in
the final standings.
Kite currently sits eighth in the PRA Big Car Point standings with 260
markers after one event. A win this week would position Kite well in the
standings with six races remaining. 460 points are available in each round-
400 points to the winner, 20 points to the fast qualifier, 20 points to a
driver that leads a lap and an additional 20 to the driver that leads the
most laps.
The IRP gates open at 4 PM (EDT) with practice starting at 4:45 PM.
Qualifying will begin at 6 PM with racing starting at 7:30 PM. An autograph
session will be open to the public at 6:45 PM.
