MANZO AND GALLANT SCORE BIG WINS AT LEBANON VALLEY
 
            WEST LEBANON, N.Y. - The final eliminations for Top Alcohol
Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car were held today at the NHRA Lucas Oil
Drag Racing Series being held this weekend at Lebanon Valley Dragway.
Frank Manzo and Arthur Gallant both took home early trophies today in
this event that continues with eliminations in other categories on
Sunday. 
Manzo of Morganville, N.J., outran the field with a pass of 5.773
seconds at 250.23 mph in Top Alcohol Funny Car.  Manzo edged out Bob
Newberry of Schenectady, N.Y., who finished with a pass of 5.766 seconds
at 250.74 mph. 
            Top Alcohol Dragster driver, Arthur Gallant of Boxboro,
Mass., found the winner's circle making a pass of 5.407 seconds at
267.37 mph.  Runner up, Rich McPhillips of Phoenixville, Pa., finished
with a time of 5.747 seconds at 247.38 mph.
            In Comp Eliminator qualifying, Lee Zane of Perry Hall, Md.,
will start the day Sunday in the top spot while Allyn Armstrong of
Kingston, N.S., qualified in second.
            In other categories, John Armstrong of Kingston, N.S.,
qualified first driving a '69 corvette with Joseph Franco III of N.
Babylon, N.Y., finding the second position in Super Stock.  Stock
Eliminator driver, Cecil Frazier of S. Easton, Mass., qualified in the
number one position in his '92 Camaro with a pass of 11.672 seconds.  In
the Foxwood Top Sportsman category, it was John Benoit of Montpelier,
Vt., that ran 6.807 seconds at 204.08 mph to qualify first going into
Sunday's eliminations.
            Racing continues Sunday at Lebanon Valley Dragway.  Gates
open at 8:00 a.m.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 6
