"In God We Trust" it says it on the US Dollars and today Scott was on the money. Scott Speed: "I am convinced we need to have more races in America, because we seem to have better luck in qualifying. This was the first time for several races that I didn't run into traffic. We did a good job of engineering the car today. We have a good balance on new and old tyres which is hard to get here and that should carry through to the race. It's great to out-qualify the Red Bull Racing guys! Starting this far up the grid, I think we've got a great opportunity for points." (Best lap 1.12.792, pos.13th) Tonio Liuzzi: "I had a massive problem with understeer on the first lap with new tyres. At Turn 8, I went over the kerb and the car flew about one and a half metres into the air. I think I must have broken something at the front and was not able to do another quick lap. I don't know where all the understeer came from, with a big shift in balance we did not expect from what we had seen in the morning." (Best lap 1.14.041, pos. 21st) GRAN PREMIO DEGLI STATI UNITI 2006 - SABATO 01/07/06 " IN SCOTT WE TRUST" Oggi l'IMS è diventato l'International Motor Scott Speedway nel senso che l`unico pilota americano ha scelto proprio la sua pista di casa per mettere a segno la sua migliore prestazione in qualifica in Formula 1. (Prima che il solito intelligentone ci venga a dire che era partito dalla 12a posizione in Malesia, vi informiamo che ne siamo al corrente, ma che era stato possibile dopo che altri piloti erano stati retrocessi). "In God we trust" è quello che è scritto sulle banconote dei dollari americani. Scott Speed: "Mi sto convincendo che dovremmo correre più sovente in America, perché sembra che da questa parte dell'Oceano abbiamo più fortuna in qualifica. E' stata la prima volta da diverse gare a questa parte, che non sono stato rallentato dal traffico. Abbiamo fatto veramente un bel lavoro con gli ingegneri nella messa a punto della macchina oggi. Abbiamo trovato un buon bilanciamento sia con le gomme nuove sia con le vecchie, e non è cosa facile su questa pista, e credo che potremo fruire di questo vantaggio anche in gara. E' stato bello superare in qualifica i ragazzi della Red Bull e credo che partendo così bene sullo schieramento, avremo buone possibilità di conquistare punti". (Miglior giro: 1'12''792, pos. 13°) Tonio Liuzzi: "Ho avuto un enorme problema di sottosterzo sin dal primo giro, con gomme nuove. Alla curva 8, sono finito oltre il cordolo e la macchina è decollata di un metro e mezzo in aria. Credo che si debba esser rotto qualcosa nella parte anteriore, e non ho potuto staccare un altro giro veloce. Non so da dove venisse tutto quel sottosterzo, con grossi problemi di bilanciamento che proprio non ci aspettavamo da quello che avevamo potuto vedere nelle prove di stamattina".
