NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES - NORTHEAST DIVISION

RACING HEATS UP AT LEBANON VALLEY DRAGWAY
 
            WEST LEBANON, NY. - In the first rounds of qualifying at the
NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series being held this weekend at Lebanon
Valley Dragway, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Arthur Gallant and Top
Alcohol Funny Car pilot David Ray took the No. 1 qualifying positions in
their classes. 
Arthur Gallant of Boxboro, Mass., got off to a fast start outrunning the
field with a pass of 5.449 seconds at 259.41 mph.  In the number two
position, John Finke of Selkirk, N.Y., ran 5.465 seconds at 263.56 mph.
            Plaistow, N.H., resident David Ray took the number one spot
with a pass of 5.781 seconds at 248.43 mph in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
Plaistow outran Mickey Ferro of Stamford, Conn., who qualified second
with a time of 5.801 seconds at 247.66 mph.
            Qualifying first in Comp Eliminator was Lee Zane from Perry
Hall, Md., making a pass of 9.064 seconds, while Allyn Armstrong, of
Kingston, NS., qualified second in his '72 GT.  
            Stock Eliminator driver Cecil Frazier, Easton, Mass., ended
the day qualifying in the top position making a pass of 11.712 seconds
in his '92 Camaro.   Super Stock driver John Armstrong of Kingston, NS.,
also qualified first with a time of 8.95 seconds driving a '69 Corvette.
In the first qualifying session for the Foxwood Top Sportsman Shootout,
John Benoit of Montpelier, Vt., qualified in the top position, while
Tommy Turner of Naples, Fl., held on to the second spot. 
            Racing continues Saturday at Lebanon Valley Dragway.  Gates
open at 7:30 a.m.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 6
