TURNER NAMED WD-40 NHRA SPORT COMPACT CO-CREW CHIEF OF THE RACE
FOR THE MOUNTAIN MADNESS NHRA SPORT COMPACT NATIONALS
GLENDORA, Calif. – Russ Turner, crew chief for Dee Karagiannis and his Mazda RX7, has been named the WD-40 NHRA Sport Compact Crew Chief of the Race for the Mountain Madness NHRA Sport Compact Nationals in Morrison, Colo.
Turner was successful in guiding the team to a victory in the Modified category at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo., June10-11. This was Karagiannis’ second career Wally trophy with his first coming in 2005 at the Nitto NHRA Sport Compact World Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
“It feels great to win,” said Turner. “Denver was the most challenging race of the year. We did the most changes of any car that weekend. The team was caught by surprise with the altitude. Saturday we stayed up late to work on the car and it paid off.”
By winning the WD-40 NHRA Sport Compact Crew Chief of the Race award Turner will be honored at the opening ceremonies, Sunday, May 21 of the Las Vegas NHRA Sport Compact Nationals and D1 Grand Prix.
“WD-40 is like fuel,” continued Turner. “You don’t need a checklist for it. You just have it on hand when you need it. I do use it for ball joint lubrication. Also, I spray it on the engine after each race to keep it in shape until the next race.”
At each race stop for the NHRA Xplôd Sport Compact Racing Series the WD-40 Company will offer an award to recognize the NHRA Sport Compact Crew Chief of the Race. The winning Crew Chief of the Race will earn $250, a plaque, and will receive recognition during the opening ceremonies at each NHRA Sport Compact Series event and on NHRAsportcompact.com.
