Zipcar Announces Additions of Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Engineering
Senior Talent and Recent Financing Position Nation's Largest Car Sharing Company for Rapid Expansion and Continued Category Leadership
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 27 -- Zipcar, North America's largest car sharing company, today announced that Sarah Dekin has joined the company in a newly created position as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Doug Williams has joined as Vice President of Engineering. These seasoned hires complete Zipcar's executive leadership team and position the company to rapidly execute domestic and international growth, broaden the brand and increase profitability. Both positions report directly to Zipcar CEO Scott Griffith.
Sarah Dekin joins Zipcar from The House of Blues where she was Executive Vice President of Strategic Marketing & Development in charge of hotel and casino development, brand licensing and international expansion. Prior to House of Blues, Ms. Dekin worked as Director of Market Strategy and Planning at California Pizza Kitchen and was a consultant at leading strategy consulting firm, Bain and Company. With nearly 15 years of strategic marketing experience, Ms. Dekin will immediately assume responsibility for all aspects of Zipcar's marketing and member services initiatives, leveraging her expertise to further establish Zipcar as a leading lifestyle brand. Ms. Dekin holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Business School.

In his role at Zipcar, Doug Williams will continue to enhance Zipcar's award-winning technology. Williams immediately assumes all responsibility for Zipcar's innovative online, telecommunications and in-vehicle systems. Mr. Williams joins Zipcar from Empirix, the leading provider of voice and web testing and monitoring solutions, where he served as Vice President of Engineering. Prior to Empirix, Mr. Williams held the position of Senior Vice President of Technology and Product Development at Family Education Network, the largest K-12 education network on the Internet. Along with a combined Electrical Engineering and Computer Science degree from Princeton, Mr. Williams holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

The company also announced that Zipcar veteran Matthew Malloy has been named Vice President of Marketing and Sales Operations. In his new role, Mr. Malloy will be responsible for new market launches and supporting the rapid growth of Zipcar's current regions, including Metro Boston, New York, Washington DC, San Francisco and Toronto. Roy Russell, previously Vice President of Engineering, will assume a long-term role as Founding CTO.
The two new executive hires follow recent announcements from Zipcar, including $20 million in lease financing from GE Capital and the launch of Zipcar's first international market in Toronto.
