Reed Sorenson, No. 41 Target Dodge Daytona Advance...
Target Team Fast Facts:
Paint Scheme Change: The Target paint scheme will be switching
to a primarily red scheme with a white Bullseye on the hood for the
remainder of the season starting with the Pepsi 400 at Daytona. The
scheme was first introduced during the night races this past May.
Restrictor-Plate Results: Sorenson has two starts in NEXTEL Cup
and five in Busch Series competition at restrictor-plate tracks. His
Cup finishes are 29th (Daytona) and 26th (Talladega). Sorenson has two
top-10 finishes in the Busch Series, both coming at Daytona in Feb. of
'05 and '06.
Testing 1,2,3: Sorenson, along with his Chip Ganassi Racing
with Felix Sabates teammates and various other NEXTEL Cup teams tested
at The Milwaukee Mile on Tues. and Wed. in preparation for the upcoming
race at New Hampshire International Speedway and other relatively flat
tracks on the circuit.
Chassis: Crew Chief Jimmy Elledge and the Target Team have
selected chassis #602 for this weekend's NEXTEL Cup Series race. This
is the same car the team used in the season opener at the 2.5-mile
superspeedway (29th-place finish).
NEXTEL Cup Points Report: Sorenson and the Target team dropped
one position to 21st in the overall standings after their 29th-place
effort in the last event at Infineon Raceway. The team is 35 points out
of 20th and 173 points out of the top 15.
Rookie Round Up: Sorenson is currently third in the Raybestos
Rookie of the Year standings with 144 points. He trails leader Denny
Hamlin by 41 points. Sorenson has captured rookie of the race honors in
three of the 16 races run thus far in '06 (Atlanta - 10th-place finish,
Martinsville - 12th, Michigan - fifth).
Busch Series Update: Sorenson is 18th in the overall Busch
Series driver standings and he is 83 points out of 15th place. Sorenson
missed last weekend's race in Milwaukee to focus on his NEXTEL Cup
Series efforts at Infineon Raceway. CGRFS teammate David Stremme
piloted the car to a 26th-place finish. Sorenson returns to the seat of
the Discount Tire Dodge this weekend in Daytona.
Reed Sorenson on Daytona...
"I've been looking forward to returning to Daytona since the
season-opener. We were running about 11th on the last lap and cut a
tire coming to the checkered flag which cost us a great finish. We're
bringing the same car back and I expect it to be equally as good on
Saturday night. I've got a couple more restrictor-plate races under my
belt since then and I'm starting to get a better feel for how to work
the draft."
Sorenson on the First Part of the Season...
"I feel pretty good about how the Target team has performed up to this
point. Of course I'd like to have some better final results, but
overall I'm pleased with where we are at this stage of the season and
where we are headed. I'm a rookie driver working with a new team and it
takes time to develop the communication. Jimmy (Elledge) and myself,
along with the entire crew, are make huge strides each week and it's
starting to show. We've had strong cars at a majority of the races thus
far, but had different things keep us from getting the finishes we've
deserved at times. It's all luck and hopefully we've got the bad luck
behind us. I expect many great things to happen for this team during
the second half."
