No. 41 Discount Tire Team Fast Facts:
* Reed Returns: After taking this past weekend off from NASCAR
Busch Series racing, Reed Sorenson will resume his driving duties of the
No. 41 Discount Tire Dodge for this Friday night's Winn-Dixie 250 at
Daytona International Speedway. Instead of splitting his time between
the NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series competitions last week, Sorenson stayed
out west all weekend to run the No. 41 Target Dodge at Infineon Raceway
in Sonoma, Calif. While Sorenson was racing in California, his Chip
Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) teammate David Stremme stepped
in to drive the No. 41 Dodge in the Busch Series event at The Milwaukee
Mile on Saturday. Chip Ganassi Racing road-course ace Scott Pruett
drove the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge at Infineon, allowing Stremme to
compete at Milwaukee. Stremme will resume his driving duties of the No.
40 Dodge this weekend in Daytona Beach, Fla.
* Where They Stand Now: The No. 41 Discount Tire team is 20th
in the overall Busch Series championship standings. The team is 33
points out of 15th and 155 points out of 10th. Sorenson missed last
weekend's race in Milwaukee to focus on his NEXTEL Cup Series efforts at
Infineon Raceway and now stands 18th in the Busch driver standings. He
is 83 points out of 15th and 237 points out of 10th.
* A Little Closer to Home: Three members of the No. 41 Discount
Tire team will be racing a little closer to home this weekend in the
Sunshine State. Crew chief Brian Pattie and Adam Cooke, the team shock
specialist, hail from Zephyrhills, Fla. The two grew up together in the
Florida town. Bruce Jones, a team mechanic, is also from Florida. He
calls Lakeland his hometown and still has many family and friends who
reside in the area.
* On the Cup Side of Things: After Sorenson's run at Infineon
Raceway this past weekend, he and the No. 41 Target team are 21st in the
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings with 1,584 points. They are 35 points out
of 20th and 173 points outside the top 15.
* NEXTEL Rookie Ranks: Sorenson is currently third in the
NEXTEL Cup Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings with 144 points. He
trails leader Denny Hamlin by 41 points. Sorenson has captured rookie
of the race honors in three of the 16 races run thus far in '06 (Atlanta
- 10th-place finish, Martinsville - 12th, Michigan - fifth).
* Chassis: Brian Pattie and the Discount Tire team will return
to Daytona International Speedway with the same chassis--#551-they raced
at the Florida track in February, when Sorenson and team took two
early-race setbacks and turned them into a second-half comeback. The
team maintained a top-10 run the remainder of the race and survived a
last-lap colossal collision to grab a ninth-place finish (started 13th).
Chassis #551 last ran at Talladega Superspeedway in April, when a
chaotic sprint for the checkered flag forced Sorenson out of the
stronger draft and sent him from a ninth-place running position to a
17th-place finish.
Sorenson's thoughts about returning to Daytona International Speedway
for the Winn-Dixie 250: "On the Busch side of things, we had a pretty
good run at Daytona in February. The beginning of the race started a
little crazy, but I don't think I will ever forget crossing the finish
line like I did there at the end. I really wasn't sure what was going
to happen after we got hit there in the beginning, but every time I came
off pit road the car was getting better. Brian [Pattie] and all of the
guys on this Discount Tire team worked so hard to get ready for that
weekend and worked even harder to keep us going and running
competitively that day.
"We got clipped and turned around on the last lap. The good thing was
we were just a few feet from the finish line. The car slid backwards
along the wall and then finally came to a halt down near pit road. We
managed to cross the finish line in the process and even grab a top-10
finish. I was very happy with a top-10, single-digit finish then, but
I'd be much happier this weekend leaving with a win instead."
